I don’t believe in the Prophets, if that’s what you mean. Oh, I know they exist. That’s a scientific fact that’s accepted by most of the quadrant. Just ask Dax; Jadzia could go on for hours about the wormhole and how noncorporeal aliens could live there. But gods? No. Not to me.
And I don’t enjoy being worshipped. Nobody thinks I’m a god, exactly, but since Ben’s been gone I guess people think I’m the next best thing. And they all have their opinions about how I should act, and everyone keeps asking me for blessings and advice that I don't really have for them.
Although there are times when I think it’s not so bad. Like the other day when a little Bajoran girl came up to me on the Promenade. "Mrs. Emissary, are you really going to have a baby?" Yes, I said. "Is it a girl?" Yes, again. "Oooooh!" She’s kicking, do you want to touch? Big saucer eyes—"Ooh, can I?" She did, and ran off to tell her mother all about it. It made her day. If I can put a smile on someone's face like that—well, that’s not so bad, is it?
Do you believe the possibility of a true friendship between a man and a woman?
Of course. Why not?
What would a description of your *exact opposite* be like?
If Vic Fontaine’s exact opposite is the Borg, I guess mine would be a Founder.
Think about it. Someone who’s so afraid of other races that they set up a whole political and military structure to protect themselves from "the solids". Someone who can’t treat other people like equals, and passes themselves off as a god to the "lower races". Someone who seems to believe they are a god.
Someone who’s patient, because they live a long time and can afford to wait. Who is brilliant in the sciences and diplomacy, but loves power for its own sake. Someone aggressive, who doesn’t know how to play.
Someone indirect, who prefers infiltrating a new culture and pretending to be someone they’re not rather than just asking for the information they need.
Someone who can be anyone or anything, but who is very alone in the universe when they are cut off from the Link, because they don’t know how to make friends.
Doesn’t sound like much of a life to me.
